project overview

Sidera was engaged by the building owner, J S Porter Ltd, to manage a strengthening and repair programme to 100% NBS, and by the tenant, the Ministry of Social Development, as main contractor for the fit-out at 39 Durham Street, Christchurch over a six month period from planning stage to final code of compliance. The re-development of the earthquake-damaged building entailed the demolition of the existing floor slab, the installation of major foundation beams underpinned by 46 screw piles driven to 24 metres. Thirty tonnes of steelwork was added to reinforce the superstructure to allow for snow and wind loading, and the interior re-fitted to deliver 1,550 m² of purpose designed office space.
